Grandma

Grandma
So strong
Never cried
Not in the ambulance after a car wreck
Not even after breaking her ankle
In fact she told no one
not wanting to shift the focus
from her grandaughter's wedding to herself
She bragged about how strong
she was in her old age
How she could still see
and had her memory
She would drag a hose
through the dirt and rocks
to water the trees that she and
the rest of the family had planted
She walked the track
and did water aerobics
keeping friends close
distraught about the friend with alzhiemers
Grandma was one of the few this friend remembered
Death all around her
And her body begining to fail
At least I got to see her for christmas
Helped her getting gifts
Drove and talked to her
one last meal at McDonalds
as she got gifts
McDonalds money for every stocking
Almost got her to switch to the newer card version
Glad I decied not to
It was her time
She didn't want to, couldn't
Live in a hospital bed
Hooked up to machines
She lives on with the family
We are all stubborn like her
We are Strong, Independant, Loving
Six families, six legacies
All of them strong together

She sounds like she was a remarkable person. Your poem is a fitting tribute.
